Another successful year for the Mayor's Thames Festival was capped with a sell-out showing for the awesome crew from A Taste of Freedom.
A Taste of Freedom is a new social and environmental venture that intercepts fresh yet unwanted fruit before it goes to waste and transforms it into healthy, delectable treats.
They also performed an amazing feat last year which we were very pleased to be a part of with Tristram Stuart (who writes great stuff about the mountains of waste we are producing as a population).
This year at the Thames Festival, A Taste Of Freedom had a pop-up restaurant, which of course sold out before it was even opened, producing delicious dinners with food that was perfectly good but would have been thrown away if it wasn't rescued.
A great little cause for our square bowls to go to.

Chief Leaf Adejare has been getting himself about of late. A few weeks ago he was up at the Food and Drink Exhibition in Birmingham supportingRemmerco, an international food packaging company. We are working with the Crawley based distributor on ways to change the way that business utilise packaging for their catering needs. They are committed to using more eco-friendly and sustainably sourced packaging and we are naturally keen to help. LEGAL CHALLENGE
After catching his breath, Adejare then finished the week at: Trading towards unsustainability? The legal challenges. Which was held by the Institute for Advanced Legal Studies and included speeches by one of the Deputy Director Generals of the WTO and a representative from Chatham House and
sponsorship included Friends of the earth. As a former lawyer, the appeal to Adejare was obvious but more generally, we are trying constantly to look at the bigger picture with our product and the packaging industry. We obviously feel that our product makes a great addition to events and home use in its own right but the fact is that the world needs to change from an individual level up to business and beyond at the international trade and intergovernmental level. This will mean cutting out the use of non-renewables at every level of life and if we can do so whilst giving emerging market producers a market for their projects then all the better.
DOWN TO EARTH DINING
On April 11th Campbell attended a feast hosted by the Arcola Theatre, Pangolin’s Ark and This is Rubbish. It was catered entirely with food that would have otherwise gone to waste. This was an excellent event and one that Wholeleaf was happy to support by providing some free tableware to (you can see it below). The night was made complete with some excellent entertainment in the form of the band ‘Plaster of Paris’ and an inspiring dance routine. All the waiters were dressed as deities of nature (with Amaethon the Welsh god of nature being a firm favourite at my table) and it was a great way to bring home an important message about sustainable living and the chronic problem of millions of tonnes of perfectly good food ending up on landfills each year.

UKAWARE
For our sins we’ve been wasting away the beautiful weather that has fallen on us over the last weekends. This started on the 16th-17th at UK AWARE: the UK’s only green and ethical life style show. Despite being inside it was good to be back after a hiatus last year. There were some fantastic stands and presentations, including the boisterous GLOBAL ACTION PLAN stand that were camped out in front of us.

savoury product which is being stocked in John Lewis, Poole since December
packaged in by the Wholeleaf. Following its success, it is being rolled out
over the next few months to other stores across the country and hopefully you
will see it soon.
